With the River Tees on their doorstep and the Riverside Stadium just down the road, our team of dedicated carers help people around Middlesbrough in their own homes to feel comfortable and confident.
With experienced manger Lisa Dunn at the helm, our carers not only support people living in the city of Middlesbrough, but they can also be found in Hartlepool, Billingham, Stockon-on-Tees, Redcar, Eston, Yarm, Nunthorpe, Marske-by-Sea, Sedgefield, Fishburn, Norton, Marton-in-Cleveland, Pinchinthorpe, Dunsdale, Acklam, Tollesby, Linthorpe, Darlington, Stockon-on-Tees and the surrounding areas.
Whether you’re looking for care yourself or for someone close to you, Lisa and the team can support with everything from small tasks around the house, to complex or end-of-life care.
Meet Lisa, our Branch Manager
Lisa has lived in the Middlesbrough area all her life and knows the city’s culture incredibly well.
“I am especially passionate about supporting people living with mental health difficulties and learning disabilities and I’ve had experience supporting people with various other conditions too,” Lisa says. “I also make sure that my carers have access to the best possible training to help them help our customers.”
Lisa is “also involved in promoting and providing only the highest quality standards” in the Middlesbrough team’s work and first joined Helping Hands because of a shared belief in only providing the best possible care for the families in her community.
Regular home visits around Middlesbrough
Starting from 30 minutes a week, up to several hours during the day, our visiting carers in Middlesbrough are on hand to help with the everyday tasks you might need some help with. We understand that your home is your space, which is why we always respect your privacy and routine, working to your exact needs and requirements.
Visiting care covers a range of areas, from helping you to pick out your clothes for the day, to supporting you when you’re out in the local community. It also covers:
- Personal care; assisting with showering and toileting, while protecting your comfort and dignity
- Mobility support; giving plenty of encouragement and assistance with walking aids
- Medication management; making sure you have your tablets at the right time and helping with swallowing
- Advanced or complex care; our clinical nurse managers can support with stomas, catheters, and other aspects of clinical support, putting your wellbeing and independence first.
Because needs can change unexpectedly, Lisa and her coordinators will respond quickly if you need more or less support, guiding you through every step of the process.
The carers are good listeners and they help with everything. They give you space when you need it and don’t try to interfere. I couldn’t recommend a more pleasant care company.

Continuous live-in care from a Middlesbrough carer
If you feel that you need a higher level of care, or you’re worried about a loved one being on their own, live-in care can be a good option.
Rather than moving into a residential or nursing home, live-in care lets you have the support you need within the familiar and comfortable surroundings of your own home.
With a handpicked carer, who has gone through a detailed training programme and thorough background check, on hand to help, you can keep up with your own routine and have the right support for your requirements.
Our management team will take care of the whole process for you, making sure you and your carer are a good match for each other and that any changes you need with your care are put in place as quickly and smoothly as possible.
Dementia specialists for families in Middlesbrough
Taking care of someone with dementia can be difficult. Our carers are here to help you and your family.
As a family-owned company, we have 30 years’ experience supporting people with different forms of dementia and will always work to a routine that you and your loved one are familiar with.
With training from one of our dementia specialists, you can be confident that our carers will always put you and your family first, ensuring a safe, comfortable environment for you all to live.
Short-term care if you need a rest
As many as one in 10 people are currently caring for a relative or friend. And it’s only natural that sometimes we need some time just for ourselves, so we can recharge.
Respite care is an ideal solution if you need or want to have a break from caring for a loved one, and still ensure they are getting the help they need. Starting from as little as three days up to a fortnight, respite care can also be ideal if you have to attend to a family emergency, or have to leave your loved one for any reason.
In most cases, respite care can be put in place quickly to keep any disruption to a minimum, and works to yours and ensures that your loved one still has the care they’re used to even if you’re not around.
Support for complex needs
Conditions such as motor neurone and cerebral palsy can require specialist one-to-one care. And understanding the options available to you can seem daunting to begin with.
However, our clinical carers are here to help. With a network of clinical nurse managers, all of whom have years of experience in supporting people with complex conditions, we can help you understand the support you and your family might need, and put the right solution in place.
Our carers are hand-selected based on their experience and personalities, and support with everything from carrying out hoisted transfers to managing catheters and stomas, and carrying out personal care in a manner which protects your dignity and independence. We can also support those recovering from a brain or spinal injury caused by road traffic accidents.
Fully-trained carers in Middlesbrough ready to help
Coming from all walks of life, what unites our Middlesbrough carers is their love of care. Each one goes through a detailed training programme at our Centre of Excellence, covering everything they need to give the best care within their customers’ homes.
Each carer is subject to a DBS check and we are also regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), so you can be sure you and your family have a carer you can trust.
We believe in helping our carers be the best they can be, which is why they always have the option of further training in specific conditions and regular refresher training so their skills are always at the top level.
Helping Hands is the best company I’ve worked for! They really look after you, all of the office staff are really lovely and nothing is too much trouble.
