"Hello, I am Melissa. As the Branch Manager for Derby, I’m responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of the branch and ensuring that our team are fully supported. I want to ensure that all of our carers feel supported and inspired, as this enables them to keep our customers safe and cared for."
For over 30 years, we've been supporting people with care, nurse-supported care and companionship across England and Wales. As industry-leaders in home care, we know what it takes to provide the right level of care so that you can retain your independence in the comfort of your beloved home.

Fully flexible care packages as your needs change
Flexible care provided in your own home with a fully qualified carer. Visits start from as little as 30 minutes up to several hourly or overnight calls throughout the week.
One-to-one support from a fully qualified care that lives with you. Full-time support so you can stay at home where you feel most comfortable.
Since our inception in 1989, we have been committed to providing high-quality home care to thousands of families across the UK, enabling them to remain safe and independent in the comfort of their own homes. Our aim is to ensure that you are able to continue to live the life you want to lead; whether you enjoy going for a walk along the bank of the River Derwent or a cup of tea in Calke Abbey – we’re here to ensure that you can continue to do the things that make you happy, just with a little help along the way.
Whether you need 30-minute drop-ins to help you prepare your meals or more complex support that involves PEG feeding or catheter management, the team will work closely with you to build a personalised support plan that is focussed entirely around you and your needs.
We understand that, regardless of their condition, everybody is different, and each have their own individual requirements. Here at Helping Hands we celebrate your individualities, and we are committed to giving you the encouragement, guidance and support you need to feel safe and independent at home.
If you’re in need of more intensive support but moving into a residential home isn’t your preferred option, live-in care from the team is the perfect solution to ensure that you can remain in the place you know best without compromising on the support you need. With round-the-clock assistance and a detailed 24 hour care plan that is built around you, a live-in carer from our Derby team will get to know you and your schedule so that you can continue your day-to-day life with minimal disruption.
We understand how important it is for you to remain in control of your care. With no restrictions on visiting times, no set meal times or menus and no daily schedules to abide by, the only person who will be able to decide how you live your life is the person who matters most – you.
We believe that providing high-quality care is more than just practical support; it’s about spending each day with someone that brings happiness to your life – and that’s exactly what you’ll get with live-in care from our Derby team. So, if you enjoy watching the Rams play at Pride Park Stadium, we’ll be right there with you in a black and white scarf.

Helping Hands was founded by Mary Lee in 1989 to enable those who needed more support to remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes. Thirty years later, we’re proud to be providing exactly the same support to thousands of families across England and Wales. As a company that is big enough to support your every need, yet still small enough to care, we are here to enable you to feel safe and independent in your home.
Built on a foundation of family values, we understand how important it is for you have control over your own care. That’s why the Derby team will work with you to ensure that you have the domiciliary care you want, when you want it.
We understand how challenging and unsettling a dementia diagnosis can be – whether it’s Pick’s disease, vascular dementia, or Alzheimer’s – but with our experienced and empathetic carers, we can soon put your mind at ease.
All of our carers receive thorough dementia training and are equipped to support not just the individual living with the condition, but their families too. So, whether you’re living in the early stages of dementia and need someone to check on you once a day, or if you have more advanced symptoms and require round-the-clock support, we’ll make sure we put a package of dementia care in place that is tailored entirely around your needs.
Here at Helping Hands, we put an emphasis on independence and enabling you to live the life you want to lead, regardless of your age or limitations. Rather than taking over and doing everything for you, we’ll be there to support and guide. We’ll even take you out and about to your favourite café, park or to catch up with your friends, so that you can still enjoy your life to the full.
And if you start to struggle a bit more with your mobility, continence or fall behind on keeping your house tidy, our flexible elderly care solutions mean that we can continuously adapt to your changing needs.
If you’re in need of temporary support after being discharged from hospital, whilst you go away on holiday or your caregiver takes a break, respite care from the Derby team could be the ideal solution for you.
Designed to provide expert care but without disturbing your regular routine, we can often put a package of care in place on the same day of your initial enquiry. So you can rest assured that you’ll have everything you need from our team, even at short notice.
Our talented carers consistently go above and beyond for our customers and they truly are an absolute credit to us. We’re committed to ensuring they continually adhere to the very high standard of care that has been set and we train all of our carers in-house rather than with external agencies.
Whether they’re training at our bespoke centre in Warwickshire or within one of our many branches across the country, all of our carers learn detailed skills in manual handling, mobility aids, first aid, dementia and safeguarding. As well as going through stringent background checks by our own Recruitment Team, they also complete regular refresher training to ensure that they adhere to the latest practices.
As with any regulated care company, we are closely monitored by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) who make sure our service is safe, responsive and effective with both our policies and staff. We are also aligned with Dementia Action Alliance (DAA), Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) and the United Kingdom Acquired Brain Injury Forum (UKABIF) – all of which work to promote awareness and best practice of their respective conditions.
If you would like to find out more about how we can support you, you can call us seven days a week.
Alternatively, you can pop into the Derby branch on Shardlow Road, where the team will be happy to talk through your care options over a cup of tea. If you find it difficult to get to the branch, they can come to you too.
