Financial support for care during coronavirus

Coronavirus financial support

Many people have been discharged from hospital recently due to the NHS freeing up beds for patients with COVID-19. Under normal circumstances, those discharged would still be in hospital with ongoing illnesses, operations or recovery time, but due to the unprecedented strain on the NHS this is unfortunately not the case.

If you or a loved one has found themselves in this situation and you need extra support at home but are worried about the cost of care, there are funding options available to you.

The Government have announced £2.9 billion in local social care funding due to coronavirus. Call us today on 0333 0603 862 to find out how we can support you.

What financial options are available to me?

Depending on your personal circumstances, you may be able to get some or all of your care funded for you by your local authority. The threshold is £23,250 – so if you have assets or savings in excess of this amount, then you will have to pay fully for your care. But if you have funds less than this amount, you may receive financial support to pay for your care.

To see how much you may be eligible for, you will need to apply for a financial assessment from your council. This will assess all of your finances including savings, pensions, property and benefits.

Once your assessment has taken place, you will be notified of how much financial support you are entitled to. If you are successful, the payments will be provided as part of your personal budget which forms your social care funding. You can decide whether you manage your own funding budget or whether your local council does this on your behalf.

What’s next if you have home care funding during coronavirus?

If you have been provided with some or all of the funding for your care from your local authority, we can then arrange for a package of care to be put in place that suits you. Whether you need regular calls from a visiting carer or if you need round-the-clock support from a live-in carer, we’ll work with you to arrange the right level or care for your needs and preferences.

Our dedicated teams are very much used to working cohesively with local authorities to collectively arrange care. Talk to us today to find out more.
