Meet Alecia, our Branch Manager

Alecia White, Branch Manager for Newcastle

Alecia has been working in the care sector for several years and has “provided care and support to a range of customers with learning difficulties and mental health needs.”

She has “an amazing team of carers, who always deliver outstanding service to our North East customers.” She adds, “I’ve lived in the North East for four years now, and previously lived in Scotland, so I know the North of England very well.”

Prior to joining Helping Hands, Alecia worked as a client manager for a complex care company, specialising in needs such as tracheostomy and ventilation support. She loves learning and developing her skillset and is currently completing her NVQ levels.

Visiting home care built to suit you

Our care visits start from just 30 minutes per week, all the way through to several hours a day. Visiting care in the comfort of your home is a great way to preserve your independence, designed to fit in around your lifestyle, routines and requirements, even if you only need a quick visit each week.

Whether you’re looking for care for yourself or someone close to you, visiting home care enables you to have the right level of care in the place you feel most comfortable. Our South Shields carers can support you with all of the following and much more:

  • Medication administration – making sure you have the correct medication at the right time and ensuring you’re safe when swallowing.
  • Mobility support – helping with mobility aids, such as walking frames, and general support so you can get out and about.
  • Personal care – assisting with washing and dressing, as well as tending to other areas of personal hygiene.
  • Housework and companionship – supporting you with household duties, including ironing and laundry. Our carers are also great company and love to chat.

Round-the-clock support in your own home

As conditions deteriorate, you might find that you or your loved one needs more regular support. Continuous, 24-hour care ensures you can stay living in your home, whilst still receiving the same aspects of visiting care.

Live-in care is an ideal solution for those who have an advanced condition or have very particular needs. All our live-in carers are fully-trained and confident to support with administering medication or helping with mobility, as well as carrying out complex care needs, such as stomas and catheters.

We handpick our carers to suit your needs and your personality; that way they’ll be more than just a carer. They’ll also be a friend or companion.

Dementia care in South Shields

The symptoms and intensity of dementia vary with each person. Because dementia affects people in different ways, finding the right level of support can be difficult.

Familiarity is key, that’s why we’ll closely follow a tailored care plan, built by and around you. Whether your loved one needs medication at a specific time or has a favourite TV programme that they enjoy watching, our carers will be on hand to facilitate this routine.

Care for complex or progressive conditions

Specific conditions or injuries to the brain and/or spine may require specialist care. However, that doesn’t mean having to move into a nursing home or hospice.

Working closely with our in-house clinical specialists, we can produce a care plan designed specifically with your needs in mind. Maintaining your independence is important to us, that’s why our carers will do everything they can to support you, your family and your lifestyle.

Throughout our award-winning training courses, our carers are taught how to use hoists and tend to catheters and stomas, making your life as comfortable as possible.

Respite care at the times you need extra support

Constantly caring for a family member or friend can have an impact on your own emotional and physical wellbeing. If you’re starting to feel overwhelmed, short-term relief may be the best option.

Respite care allows you to have a break, but also ensures the person you’re supporting has the same level of care you provide for them, whilst still living in their own home.

You can use respite care for other reasons, such as other commitments or a family occasion or emergency which requires your attention. Or, you may wish to have some support following a hospital stay or illness. Our South Shield carers will make sure your routines are followed closely so your loved one always receives a consistent level of care.

Our team of trained South Shields carers

We’re fully committed to providing the highest quality of care possible. To make sure our carers have the right skills and capabilities, we ensure each carer goes through a detailed, mandatory training programme before they start working out in the South Shields community, covering:

  • Personal care
  • Safe moving and manual handling
  • Medication administration
  • Mobility support
  • First aid

Not only is our training endorsed as a Centre of Excellence by Skills for Care, we’re also fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), meaning our carers have gone through a detailed background check and follow the most up-to-date practices in their work.

We understand there is a lot to consider when choosing care. That’s why our team will be on hand to explain everything you need to know, and more.

You can visit Alecia and our South Shields team on Chillingham Road Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm (excluding bank holidays), or you can book an appointment at a time and place which suits you and  your loved one.
