Cost of Preventive Care

How much does Preventive Care Cost?

Preventive Care is the process of trying to encourage people to follow a healthy lifestyle so that they remain in the best possible health for as long as possible, therefore avoiding the need for treatment and preventing additional pressure on health services. The NHS states that preventive care will “both help people to live longer, have healthier lives, and reduce the demand for and delays in treatment and care.”

Everyone can try to live their best quality of life possible, whether they are already living with illness and disabilities and regardless of age. The main focus of preventive care is on managing alcohol consumption, encouraging people to quit smoking and trying to ensure that a healthy weight is maintained. Helping Hands’ carers can support all of our customers to live the best quality of life they can and to follow a programme of preventive care.

This could be helping our customers to manage their weight through preparing customised foods for them, following a dietician or nutritionist’s personalised plan, or encouraging our customers to undertake physical activity. Our customers are always firmly at the centre of their care experience and choose what they do and how they do it, however our carers will always work with the customer and their advocate to encourage the customer to make healthy choices and prevent ill health, where possible.

Our care can be delivered on both a visiting and live-in basis and we’ll design your bespoke package of care so that it fits your requirements exactly. Our home care packages start from visits of just 30 minutes per week and we always keep our costs as transparent as possible so that you don’t have any unexpected shocks when your bill arrives.

Our prices for live-in care start from:

  • £1,779 per week for a single person
  • £1,779 per week for a couple

Our prices for visiting care start from:

  • £25.27 per hour for one-to-one personal home care
  • Flexible costs for visits lasting 30, 45 or 60 minutes
  • Prices depend on your location and specific care needs, with differences for overnight care and support provided during weekends and bank holidays
  • Call-out fee of £4.25 per visit to cover travel costs

Paying for Preventive Care

While the majority of our customers do pay privately for their care, there is sometimes funding available from your local authority, depending on certain criteria. We can help you to make sense of the processes involved in paying for your care and will work with the funding bodies as well to make sure you get to live your life just as you want to at home.

We always keep our prices reasonable, easy to follow and transparent, plus you’ll have the reassurance of knowing we’re a private homecare company with over three decades of experience and thousands of customers who trust us. If you’re in receipt of direct payments we can also accept them, as well as top-ups to your care funding. We have a whole team of friendly customer advisors available seven days a week to answer any questions you may have about funding your care, so call us today to find out more.

Possible Funding Options

Planning how you’re going to pay for your care is an important step of the process, whether you’re paying for it yourself or you’re receiving local authority funding. To make sure that you’re receiving all the benefits and payments you may be eligible for, it’s sensible to talk through your options with an independent expert so that they can advise you.

In addition, you can also look at our page of FAQs about funding your care. There are asset thresholds that cannot be exceeded if you’re to receive funding, however your property may not be taken into account so it’s definitely worth speaking to an independent financial advisor who has care fee planning knowledge and experience. When you’re ready you should ask your local council for a Financial Assessment.

Planning for Preventive Care

By beginning good habits as early as possible we can all try and prevent the onset of conditions caused by less healthy lifestyle choices. It’s also really important to plan early for your care if you’re living with an ongoing illness or disability, as your loved ones will want to know that your wishes are being followed when the time comes for care. ‘Prevention is better than cure’ goes the old saying, and by trying to avoid bad lifestyle habits early there is a better chance that consequences of those choices will be minimised.

Needing care is never a certainty, but by planning early and talking to homecare experts like Helping Hands, you and your loved ones can be sure that everything possible is being done to ensure your continued wellbeing at home, for as long as possible.
