Cost of Acute Care

How much does Acute Care Cost?

Acute care is when someone receives short-term treatment following a severe illness, medical condition, injury or surgery. In a hospital, an acute setting would include intensive care, cardiology, accident and emergency department. However, it is possible to receive acute care in the comfort of your home, with the help of our Helping Hands care team and healthcare professionals including your GP and community nursing staff. It aims to prevent admission or support with early discharge from the hospital.

When you are looking for acute care for yourself or your loved one, naturally a lot of questions will come to mind including how much will it cost, can I afford it or is there any funding to help me pay for care?

At Helping Hands, we are upfront about our costs, so you can rest assured that you’ll have a clear picture of what you are paying for – in other words, there are no hidden fees. With more than 30 years of care experience under our belt, we promise to provide you with high-quality acute care at home and continue to promote your independence.

Our acute care services are fully tailored to you and are provided on a visiting and live-in basis. Our visits start from as little as 30-minutes a week to round-the-clock care. Whatever service you choose will depend on your condition and circumstances – more importantly, what feels right for you.

Visiting care outline costs:

With visiting care you will receive person-centred care, whenever you need it. It is ideal if you need support little and often throughout the week. Our compassionate carers can assist you with the laundry, cooking dinner, getting dressed in the morning and even taking you for a walk to the park.

  • Prices start from £25.27 per hour for one-to-one home care
  • Flexible costs for visits lasting 30, 45 or 60 minutes
  • Prices depend on your location and specific care needs
  • Overnight care available as well as the support provided during weekends and bank holidays
  • Call-out fee of £4.25 per visit to cover travel costs
  • Free home visit from your local care specialist to assess your needs (for care lasting more than a month) and ongoing support

Live-in care costs

Live-in care allows you to have a carer stay in your home and be on hand for anything you need. It allows you to have a friendly face around the house and always feel supported. With no set mealtimes and restrictions on visiting hours means you will have full control over your care. You’ll be close to your loved ones and cherished possessions, including your favourite chair and comfortable bed. Remaining at home allows you to be in a place you love most without the upheaval of moving into a residential care home.

Live-in care costs start from £1,779 per week for a single person and £1,779 per week for a couple.

Paying for Acute Care

At Helping Hands, we have been providing care as a private home care company since 1989. We have never been a care agency which means we directly recruit our carers. We believe in transparency – there are no hidden costs or unexpected fees. So, there won’t be any surprises when your bill arrives at the end of the month.

With many paying for care privately, there may be some funding options available to you. This all depends on your criteria. However, we will help you understand your costs and how funding bodies such as the local authority, can help you pay for care at home.

Possible Funding Options

We understand how confusing it can be to get to grips with a huge amount of information about costs regarding funding for your care. That’s why our friendly customer care team is available seven days a week to address any questions you may have about your care options. Depending on your circumstances there may be funding options available to you from the NHS or your local authority. If you are still unsure you can visit our FAQs page on costs and funding.

Planning for Acute Care

When planning for acute care, we make sure we work together with you and your loved ones to provide you with the exceptional care, you deserve. With care, we know that no one size fits all, which is why our care packages are unique and tailored to your needs and requirements.

We take time to understand your condition, history, personality, likes and dislikes. So, whether you enjoy doing sudoku puzzles, reading books or spending time with your pets, we’ll make sure you continue to do the things you love. We are also fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and Care Inspectorate Wales. So, when it comes to care, we guarantee you’ll receive a service that you can trust and is better value for money.
