How much does emergency care cost?
Emergency care is necessary when you or a loved one require care at home in a hurry, usually within 24 hours. This could be because your regular carer has had to go home unexpectedly leaving you without care, or it could be that you’re cared for by family who have been taken ill themselves. Alternatively, you may need support after an accident, or perhaps you’ve been given a short-notice hospital discharge.
Regardless of the circumstances, thanks to our experience supporting thousands of people in their own homes since 1989, Helping Hands really are the homecare experts and the ones to trust with yours or your loved one’s care.
Visiting emergency care
Visiting care is where you have regular, prearranged visits from one of our carers who will carry out your requirements in the comfort of your own home. Visiting care starts from just 30 minutes and can cover every aspect of your care, including medication administration, meal preparation, personal care, housework and laundry, mobility support and much more.
You will be contacted by your local care team to arrange an at-home assessment of your care needs. Once that has been carried out you will be given a bespoke quote, personally tailored to you. As a general example though, visiting care prices are:
- From £20 per hour for one-to-one personal home care
- Flexible costs for visits lasting 30, 45 or 60 minutes
- Prices depend on your location and specific care needs, with differences for overnight care and support provided during weekends and bank holidays
- Call-out fee of £3.50 per visit to cover travel costs
Live-in emergency care
Live-in care is the perfect solution if you do not want to be at home alone, or if you would appreciate around the clock companionship as well as the same high standards of care that you get from our visiting service.
Even if you value your alone time, live-in care is still a suitable option, as our carers will understand when you wish to be on your own and will busy themselves elsewhere in the house so that you can enjoy some solitude, or have privacy with friends or family.
Live-in Care costs vary depending on the level of support needed, but costs start from:
- £1,125 per week for a single person
- £1,425 per week for a couple
Prices are also available per day in the case of short-term, respite care.
With Helping Hands, there are never any hidden costs either. When your package has been designed and the pricing communicated to you, that is what you’ll pay.

The cost of an urgent care visit
When you are in need of care with a fast turnaround, whether for yourself or a loved one, we will always do our best to keep our prices clear and easy to follow, meaning there won’t be any unpleasant surprises when your bill arrives. Furthermore, we’re not a care agency, so you don’t have to worry about agency fees or retainers. We directly employ all our carers, meaning you pay us and we pay them; simple.
Paying for your care shouldn’t be a complicated matter either. Whilst the majority of our customers pay for their care privately, depending on your circumstances there may be an opportunity for you to access home care funding from either your Local Authority or Clinical Commissioning Group.
We are able to accept direct payments, so if you’re receiving funding through social services and have opted for direct payments, we’re able to accept top-ups. This means that we can support you whatever your circumstances and help you to live your best life possible in the place you love most.
